Speak Out!

The shortest path to ending childhood hunger in South Florida, and the United States, is by insisting our elected officials at all levels of government properly fund, and fully support, existing programs such as the Federal School Breakfast, School Lunch, After-School Snack and After-School Dinner programs, as well as expand and enhance food assistance, child care, child health insurance and nutrition education programs.

2010 Federal Legislation Alert!

Congress is presently deliberating a number of major hunger-related pieces of legislation that have the potential to greatly impact childhood hunger in Florida. Under consideration is reauthorizing a greatly expanded 2010 Child Nutrition Act, which would provide additional resources for a multitude of existing federal nutrition programs (school breakfast, school lunch, after-school snacks), as well as increase availability and loosen eligibility standards. House Resolution 3321 would expand the Federal After-School Meals Program to Florida and other presently unsupported States. Please contact your congressional representatives to show your support for these desperately-needed programs.

To track the progress and obtain updates on the multiple bills and amendments connected to the 2010 Child Nutrition Re-authorization Act, click here.

For information on H. R. 3321, which provides for expansion of the after-school meals program, click here.
